WORKSHOP ON SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS

The Research Cell, HITEC-IMS Dental College, organized an engaging and highly informative workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis, attended by 21 enthusiastic participants. The workshop was conducted by Dr Humaira Mehmood from the Health Services Academy (HSA), who also serves as a Cochrane Focal Person.

The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of evidence-based research and equip them with practical skills for conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Dr Humaira delivered the session exceptionally well, combining theoretical concepts with hands-on demonstrations to facilitate participants’ learning.

The session covered the development of focused research questions, preparation of literature reviews, and the application of PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Participants were introduced to relevant search engines and strategies for identifying research evidence. The workshop also included practical demonstrations of Review Manager (RevMan) software, focusing on data analysis, generation and interpretation of forest plots, and assessment of potential bias in included studies.

Participants demonstrated great enthusiasm and actively engaged in the learning activities, discussions, and practical exercises. The interactive nature of the workshop provided valuable opportunities to clarify concepts and develop practical research skills relevant to systematic reviews and evidence synthesis.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr Beenish, Dean of Clinical Sciences, presented a shield on behalf of HITEC-IMS Dental College to Dr Humaira Mehmood as a token of appreciation for her valuable contribution and excellent facilitation.

Overall, the workshop was a successful academic initiative that strengthened participants’ research capacity and promoted evidence-based practice.
