EVERY TOOTH GIVES A CLUE: DISASTER VICTIM IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP THROUGH THE LENS OF FORENSIC DENTISTRY

The Department of Oral Pathology, Dental College HITEC-IMS, Taxila Cantt, successfully organized a scientific workshop on Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) through the Lens of Forensic Dentistry facilitated by Dr. Amber Khan on 16 September 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the principles and procedures involved in disaster victim identification, with particular emphasis on the role of forensic odontology in human identification. The integration of theoretical knowledge, practical simulations, case discussions, and reconciliation exercises provided a comprehensive learning experience in the fundamental procedures of disaster victim identification.

The workshop reinforced the importance of accurate ante-mortem and post-mortem documentation, systematic comparison of records, and collaborative efforts in forensic identification. It also highlighted the contribution of oral and forensic pathology to disaster victim identification and the need for continued professional training in this important field.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of souvenirs by the Principal and the Chief Guest to the facilitators in recognition of their dedication and valuable contributions to the successful conduct of the workshop. The principal also presented a souvenir to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation for his time, expertise, and insightful contributions to the event.

The successful organization of this scientific activity reflected the department’s commitment to academic excellence, practical skill development, and the promotion of interdisciplinary learning.
