Medical Emergencies Management in Dental Setting

In collaboration with the Pakistan Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (PAOMS), a workshop on “Medical Emergencies Management in Dental Setting” was conducted by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery- Dental College HITEC-IMS on 22^nd October 2025 to enhance the awareness and preparedness of dental professionals in managing medical emergencies in a dental setting.

This full-day intensive workshop aimed to educate and train the participants about the recognition, prevention, and prompt management of common medical emergencies that may occur in dental clinics.

The workshop included a combination of interactive lectures, live demonstrations, role play, and hands-on training on emergency protocols, including CPR, cardiac defibrillation, endotracheal Intubation, cricothyroidotomy, IV cannulation techniques, oxygen cylinder handling and administration, protocols of emergency cart, and the management of most common medical emergency conditions like hypersensitivity reaction, foreign body aspiration, MI, angina and seizures.

Col.Retd Prof.Dr.Muhammad Wasim Ibrahim a renowned maxillofacial surgeon, Brig Retd.Prof.Dr.Amanatullah Khan-HOD Anesthesiology HTEC-IMS, Prof.Dr Irfan Shah- Principal Dental College HITEC-IMS, and OMFS faculty facilitated the workshop.

Participants included postgraduate residents, general dentists, and house officers from various institutions including Hearts International Hospital, KRL Hospital Islamabad, Foundation University College of Dentistry and Dental College HITEC IMS.
