Workshop overview:
The workshop was conducted in two comprehensive segments, each designed to enhance the
academic and practical competencies of the participants. The first segment featured a series of
enlightening lectures delivered by esteemed speakers from the United Kingdom, Qatar University,
Foundation University College of Dentistry, and HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences (HITEC-IMS),
Taxila. Dr. Sidra Sana conducted a career counselling session, offering valuable guidance on the
pathway from examination to employment within the UK healthcare system. Dr. Nadia Zaib shared
insights on the increasing impact of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in the pathogenesis of Oral
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC). Dr. Mehreen presented a compelling case of a jaw mass initially
diagnosed as a benign tumor, which was later revealed to be malignant—emphasizing the importance
of vigilant diagnostic evaluation.Dr. Saman revisited fundamental concepts to differentiate between
benign, premalignant, and malignant oral mucosal lesions, reinforcing essential diagnostic criteria. Dr.
Faiqa built upon this foundation by discussing biopsy techniques and proper handling of laboratory
specimens, enhancing participants’ understanding of histopathological protocols.
The second segment consisted of a hands-on slide seminar conducted at the Pathology Laboratory of
HIT Hospital led by Dr. Amber Kiyani. This session involved active participation in microscopic slide
analysis, followed by in-depth discussions on each presented case, offering participants practical
exposure and critical diagnostic insight. The event concluded with a certificate and souvenir
distribution ceremony, presided over by the Chief Guest, Brig (Retd.) Farhat Abbas Bhatti, along with
the Principal of the Dental College, HITEC-IMS, Taxila. Tokens of appreciation were awarded to the
distinguished speakers, participants, and organizing team in recognition of their contributions. The
workshop concluded on a pleasant note with a networking lunch and a group photograph
commemorating the successful event.
