Anatomy

Introduction

The subject of Anatomy is one of the basic subjects of medical sciences which is taught in the first year of the BDS program. The course focuses mainly on the region of the head and neck. Our department offers a conventional system of teaching with methodology comprising of large group interactive sessions, tutorials, case-based learning, and practical sessions.

Mission

To enable the students to recognize anatomical structures, appreciate the developmental processes, and apply this knowledge of anatomy to the cases that they will encounter during their clinical training and future careers as practitioners. The department strives to provide the students with a thorough introduction to the characteristics, structure, development, function, and clinical significance of the human body.

Objectives

To offer educational opportunities and convey emerging scientific knowledge to the students that contribute to improving personal development and professional fulfillment.
To maintain the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.
To provide the students with a thorough introduction of the characteristics, structure, development, function, and clinical significance of the human body with emphasis on the head and neck.

Dr. Ayesha Shahid is an accomplished Assistant Professor and Head of the Anatomy Department at HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences’ Dental College. She graduated with distinction in Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Gynecology from Rawalpindi Medical College (2003) and later earned her MPhil from Riphah International University (2019).

Dr. Shahid’s teaching career spans over 15 years, starting as a lecturer at Wah Medical College (2007-2019) and later serving as a Senior Lecturer until joining HITEC-IMS in February 2023. Beyond academics, she mentors students and leads extracurricular activities as Patron of the Music Society and Head Master of Haider House.
